Protection for Snowboarders & Skiers
9. Why is protection essential in winter sports?
Protection is crucial because the speed and difficulty in winter sports are increasing, making falls more severe. Good protection absorbs the impact, prevents serious injuries (such as fractures and concussions), and reduces bruising, allowing you to stand on the slopes more comfortably and confidently.
10. What basic protection do I need as a snowboarder or skier?
The most effective basic protection consists of:
Helmet: Essential to prevent head injuries and concussions.
Wrist Guards: Especially for snowboarders. A fall is reflexively caught with the hands, which increases the risk of wrist injuries (the most common injury among beginners).
Impact Shorts / Crash Pants: Offer protection to the hips and especially the tailbone (coccyx). This is an injury-prone area, particularly for beginners and freestylers.
11. What protection is recommended for beginners?
Beginners fall more often and often hard on their buttocks or wrists. We strongly recommend:
Impact Shorts (such as Azzpadz or Demon Flex-Force Shorts) to protect the tailbone.
Wrist Guards to prevent fractures or bruises.
A Helmet.
12. What protection is recommended for advanced riders/freestylers?
In addition to basic protection, extra protection is advisable due to higher speeds and larger jumps:
Back Protector: Provides protection against serious spinal injuries, especially for park riders, off-piste skiers, or in the event of collisions. Available as a separate back plate or integrated into a Protective Vest.
Knee Pads: Protect the knees when landing in the snow after a trick or when skiing.
13. What protection do children need?
Children are particularly vulnerable and require the best possible protection:
Helmet: Always. Make sure it fits well and meets safety standards.
Back Protector/Protective Vest: Protects the spine and upper body.
Impact Shorts or Azzpadz: Children often learn by falling; tailbone protection is crucial.
Knee and Wrist Guards: Depending on the sport (especially wrists for snowboarding).
Products & Technology
14. What is D3O® and why do you use it?
D3O® is an advanced shock-absorbing material. It is flexible and soft during normal use but hardens immediately upon impact. This allows it to absorb and disperse the energy of a fall, offering superior protection without compromising comfort or freedom of movement.
15. How do I choose the correct protection size?
Always measure the circumference of the relevant body part (e.g., waist circumference for impact shorts, or chest circumference for a protective vest) and compare it with the size chart found on the product page. The correct fit is crucial for optimal protection.
16. How do I maintain and wash my Demon protection products?
Most Demon products must be washed by hand in cold water. Do not use detergent and do not tumble dry to ensure the integrity of the protective material (such as D3O®). Always check the washing label on the product.
17. Which sports is Demon protection suitable for?
Although Demon is known for snowboarding and skiing, our protection is also excellent for other action sports, thanks to its high quality and D3O® technology, such as mountain biking (MTB), BMX, skating, and skateboarding.
